AI-supported writing technologies (AISWT) that provide grammatical suggestions, autocomplete sentences, or generate and rewrite text are now a regular feature integrated into many people's workflows. However, little is known about how people perceive the suggestions these tools provide. In this paper, we investigate how Black American users perceive AISWT, motivated by prior findings in natural language processing that highlight how the underlying large language models can contain racial biases. Measuring Early Intervention Providers’ Use
of a Novel Switch-accessible Play Kit.

Play is crucial for the development of young children, including those with developmental delays or disabilities. Switch-adapted toys can facilitate independent play but are often expensive and limited in availability. This study evaluates the use of a novel Switch Kit, developed to address these limitations, by early intervention providers. Providers reported positive perceptions of the Switch Kit, noting its effectiveness in engaging children and supporting play. Usage data showed that the Switch Kit was used in multiple sessions with various clients, demonstrating its versatility. Click here!

This study employed a design research approach involving nine undergraduate students specializing in engineering and design, along with four faculty mentors from diverse disciplines, to explore and implement tactile media design practices, address accessibility interface issues and develop effective hardware manipulation techniques for tactile media production within the context of design and engineering education. What's next?

I just received a grant from the University of Washington's Center for Research and Education on Accessible Technology and Experiences (CREATE) to fund my own independent research study on how students with learning disabilities perceive generative AI in their education. I'm excited to lead my own project as I graduate with my undergraduate degree. Keep an eye out for the results and upcoming paper!
