Undergraduate Researcher, Steele Lab — UW Mechanical Engineering

  • Co-designed assistive technology for children with disabilities, integrating feedback from clinicians and families through home visits

  • Engineered a modular switch kit to support inclusive play, applying skills in circuitry, soldering, and user-centered design

  • Should AI Mimic People? Understanding AI-Supported Writing Technology Among Black Users

    Research in the "Should AI Mimic People? Understanding AI-Supported Writing Technology Among Black Users" directed research group, led by Ph.D. student Jeffrey Basoah (HCDE), Prof. Daniela Rosner (HCDE), and Prof. Katharina Reinecke (CSE) Exploring the black user experience with AI-related technology such as ChatGPT and autocorrect by synthesizing and using data to improve this technology, conducting participant interviews, analyzing audio transcripts, conducting design fiction workshops

  • The Switch Kit: Accessible Play for Children with Disabilities

    Conducted independent quantitative and thematic analysis of data, applied expertise in circuitry, wiring, and soldering to develop a unique switch kit to foster play for kids with disabilities, collaborated with 20+ clinicians and families at home visits to understand user needs and develop the kit, and contributed to research papers and abstracts. Currently in the process of co-authoring a paper on the full analysis.

  • Exploring Accessible Tactile Graphics Workflows
    Research in the "Accessible Tactile Graphics Fabrication" directed research group, led by Drs. Nadya Peek, Emily Whiting, Abigale Stangl, and Sarah Coppola (HCDE) Exploring digital fabrication methods to make tactile graphics more affordable and accessible and identifying new techniques for producing tactile graphics, including 3D printing and rapid prototyping.

    Capstone & Research Projects

  • Does AI Make Learning Easier? Evaluating AI-Generated Summaries for Students with Learning Disabilities: I am the lead researcher on this project, aiming to understand whether AI summarization tools actually help college students with disabilities read and understand academic texts. I want to learn which tools feel most helpful, what kinds of summaries are easiest to understand, and how different prompting styles change the usefulness of the summaries.
